2009 Archive

These notices appeared on our web site during the year and were moved off as they became obsolete. They are in reverse order — most recent to oldest — except for the calendar of events, which is at the end. Links were good at the time we posted them, but they often go bad after a while — we don't guarantee them.

Moving Day / No Classes — April 30, 2009

All classes are canceled on Thursday, April 30. We will be moving our school to the new location that day.

We expect to open on Friday, May 1, but it will depend if the floor is ready on time. Come anyway, and bring your uniform. We will have orientation on Friday and Saturday. Come see the new school, learn where to park, check out the facilities, etc.

Our new school is just down the street from the old one, on the corner of Chain Bridge Road and Curran Street. The address is 1400 Chain Bridge Road, second floor.

Map of new school location

We Are Moving

Dear Parents and Students,

I have very great news for everyone. I've been looking for a better facility and location here in McLean, VA for a decade now, and it's been tough as you may know. However, I finally found one. The new address is 1400 Chain Bridge Rd, 2nd floor, McLean, VA 22101. It is the building adjacent to the Langley Shopping Center, next to the McDonalds and Boston Market. The first floor of the building is AT&T and Salon Michel. The new school includes as follows:

  • Approximately 3,000 sq. ft. for training and other facilities
  • Over 10 ft. high ceiling
  • Many windows and skylights
  • Free garage parking under the building
  • Private elevator to the 2nd floor from garage level and first floor entrance at rear
  • There's a front door next to the AT&T entrance and a side door from the Langley Shopping Center side

I appreciate your patience for being in the basement studio for a long period of time which was not my choice. Now we will have a much better environment for yourself and children to grow together through Taekwondo.

Sincerely,
Master S.H. Kim

Moving Day

We expect to move during the week of April 26, 2009. The exact day will be posted on this website as soon as we know it. Our new school is just down the street from the old one, on the corner of Chain Bridge Road and Curran Street.

School Location through April 30, 2009

Hello, Goodbye

Master Kim announced Master Baek's departure at the February 2009 belt test. While we are sad to lose Master Baek, it is good news for him. It has always been his dream to open his own school. He will be moving to Richmond, where his family lives, to pursue that dream. We will miss Master Baek but are happy for him and wish him well.

Master Kim has, as usual, searched for the best masters he could find to teach at our school and is happy to announce that two taekwondo masters have been added to our staff: Master Lee and Master Park. Please introduce yourselves to them and join us in welcoming them to our school.

Jong (Jay) Baek

Photo of Master Baek

Master Baek taught taekwondo at several schools in Virginia before joining our staff in 2005. He is our main instructor, leads the school's demonstration team, and runs belt tests. Master Baek is a member of the Washington Metropolitan Taekwondo Society's Exhibition Team.

It's a Boy!

[2/1/09] Master Shepler is grandma today! Her son and daughter-in-law welcomed into the world a healthy baby boy this afternoon: David Isaac. All of us at SH Kim send our congratulations to the happy parents and grandparents!
